The Effects of Group Music Therapy Focused on Creative Music Making on the Self-esteem and Self-resilience of the Children in a Community Child Center

Abstract
This study is to examine the effects of creative-music-making group music therapy on the self-esteem and self-resilience for children in community child center. This study was conducted at A community child center in S-gu, Seoul, Korea, for 60 minutes per session, once or twice a week for 11 sessions total from 11 March to 23 April in 2016. To measure the effect of the program, pre- and post-test were utilized and through SPSS 20.0 Wilcoxon Matched Pair Test the statistical results were analyzed. In order to study qualitative change of self-esteem and self-resilience of the children in the community child center, sub-factors were built around the interview with them on their experience and change. In the result of quantitative research, self-esteem of the children in the community child center showed statistically significant difference between pre- and post-test scores. However, it did not show statistically significant difference between pre-and post test in self-resilience score. There was a tendency that the score was increased. In the result of qualitative research, meanwhile, the change of experience toward self-esteem drew five sub-factors: positive self-recognition, improvement of self-assertion, sense of belonging, positive personal relationship and psychological support. And the experience change toward self-resilience drew two sub-factors: advancement of ability for emotional control and stress adaptation.
